The Halloween office party ideas that work best are the ones a whole team will join in with: a short hosted game, a decorating contest, a themed lunch, or a quiz over a video call. Here are 12 of them, for teams in the office, at home, or split between the two, with a note on which ones cost nothing and which ones we can run for you.

When is Halloween 2026?

Halloween falls on 31 October every year. In 2026 that is a Saturday, so for most workplaces the office celebration lands on Thursday 29 or Friday 30 October instead. Those two days fill up first, so if you want something hosted, get the date in the diary before you settle on the idea.

The Halloween period now covers most of the fortnight before the 31st, which gives you more room than the date suggests. An event in the week of 26 October still reads as a Halloween event and is usually easier to book.

Does everyone have to dress up?

No, and it is worth planning as though a good number of people will not. Costumes are the part of a work Halloween party that colleagues opt out of most, whether that is a customer-facing role, a dress code, or simply not fancying it. Make the costume optional and put the activity at the centre of the party instead. Every idea below works whether or not a single person turns up in a cape.

Our Halloween Office Party Ideas

Celebrating dates like Halloween with your team will help improve morale, bring your team together, encourage people to get to know each other and score you points when it comes to setting a great company culture.

But what to plan? Fear not as we have our top 12 ideas for you:

1. Virtual Halloween Trivia Challenge

There’s nothing that brings teams together more than a team building activity - celebrate Halloween with a quick-fire, hosted Halloween trivia challenge that will encourage teams to have some fun, test their Halloween knowledge and get creative.

2. Virtual Murder Mystery game

The gruesome side of Halloween can best be celebrated with your remote team via a Virtual Murder Mystery activity. Work through the evidence, hear from the suspects and work as a team to try and uncover the killer and murder weapon in these high-pressure cases.

3. Pumpkin carving

Who doesn’t love carving pumpkins? What a great way to celebrate the spooky season than by ordering a delivery of pumpkins and spending an hour or so carving them and adding your favorite designs. You could even bring in an expert to guide you through the process. The added bonus is that your team have something to take home to their families afterwards!

4. Watch a scary movie

Whether it’s one of the classics like ‘Halloween’ or ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’, or something less mainstream, why not host a movie evening with drinks and food and give your team a scare! There are no shortage of options on streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime and it’s a great way for the team to enjoy a shared experience that they will be talking about for days and weeks to come.

5. Apple Bobbing

This classic Halloween game is great fun and guaranteed to have you laughing as a team. All you need is a bowl of water and some apples and you are ready to go. But be warned - it is harder than it looks!

6. Make some Halloween themed drinks

Why not get mixing and create some tangtastic drinks like Halloween punch using cherry juice, chili, cinnamon, and ginger, then garnish with edible fangs? Add vodka for those who prefer it. Not only is it fun to make a punch, but it is a nice way to kick off a Halloween office party!

7. Offer a healthy Halloween lunch

With rising healthcare costs always at the forefront of everyone’s minds, why not treat your employees to a healthy office lunch with a Halloween twist? You could even invite a nutritionist into the office to prepare a healthy, balanced offering.

8. Set up a Halloween Slack Channel

For those teams that use Slack, setting up a Halloween channel is a great way for employees to share Halloween film suggestions, party ideas, funny stories and costume ideas. A team that has fun together, works well together!

9. Create a ‘Halloween wall’ of fun

Why not bring some smiles into the office with a Halloween wall where staff can bring in photos of their best Halloween costumes to share with the team. Pick a time for staff to talk through their costume idea, share a funny story about why they were wearing it, and maybe even offer it up to someone else in the office who needs a costume for their party! You could even offer a prize for the best photo!

10. Collaborate on a spooky party playlist

Whichever music streaming service you use, why not ask your team to contribute 3 of their favorite songs and then create a playlist that you can share with the team. A great way to get to know the music tastes of your team and have some Halloween themed music playing in the office too!

11. Play a virtual game of guess the Halloween movie

On your next virtual team huddle, ask everyone to send you the trailer for their favourite Halloween film. Drop the clips into a shared slide deck, play them back one at a time, and have the team guess whose pick is whose. You can spread it over a few days in the run-up to Halloween, and it is a genuinely good way to get to know people.

12. Virtual Scavenger Hunt

Halloween is the perfect time to get your team together for a scavenger hunt and our Virtual Halloween Scavenger Hunt is a great option for some high-energy fun with your virtual team. This activity is guaranteed to create the perfect office vibe during your Halloween office party.

If you would rather not run it yourself

Two of the ideas above are things we host for you, both over a video call and both 45 minutes. Trivia Challenge: Halloween Edition is a live-hosted quiz of Halloween rounds with photo and video tasks scoring alongside the questions. Our Virtual Scavenger Hunt: Halloween Edition is a hosted hunt of photo, video and trivia challenges that also runs hybrid, so people in the office and people at home can play in the same game. Both are run by a live host and take up to 300 players online.

Many of our experiences can be booked with as little as 24 hours’ notice, although the last week of October is the one week of the year when that is genuinely tight.

The full hosted range, including the in-person and murder mystery options, is on our Halloween team building activities page. If you want free games to run yourself instead, our guide to Halloween office games has eight that need nothing more than a meeting room or a video call.
