Bring your team together in one of the UK’s most characterful cities with a team building activity in Edinburgh. From the cobbled streets of the Old Town to the wide Georgian avenues of the New Town, Edinburgh offers the perfect setting for outdoor team events, treasure hunts and interactive city challenges.
A treasure hunt in Edinburgh often starts near the EICC or in the Old Town, with a route that runs along the Royal Mile and down into the New Town. We’ll set the checkpoints so teams don’t spend the whole game climbing hills, unless that’s what you’re after.
Using the Wildgoose app, teams explore the city on foot, unlocking GPS-triggered challenges, solving clues and completing photo and video tasks along the way. It’s a simple, flexible way to get people talking, moving and working together while discovering more of the city around them.
Whether you’re planning a conference activity, company away day or team social, Edinburgh gives groups a memorable backdrop packed with history, atmosphere and plenty of places to continue the day afterwards.
Typical event details:
Planning a team event in Edinburgh is straightforward. Most activities begin in a central location that’s easy for groups to reach from offices, hotels and conference venues.
After a short briefing from your event host, teams download the Wildgoose app and split into smaller groups. Each team then follows a live interactive route around the city, unlocking challenges as they move between GPS hotspots.
Tasks vary depending on the activity you choose but may include:
Because the experience is app-led, teams can explore at their own pace while still competing live against each other on the leaderboard.
Routes can be tailored around your venue, timings and preferred finish point, making it easy to fit around meetings, conferences or evening plans.
Most events last between 90 minutes and 2.5 hours, with options available for larger multi-team formats and fully hosted experiences.
Edinburgh works particularly well for city-based team building because so much of the city is walkable. Teams naturally move between major landmarks, hidden closes, open squares and busy social areas without needing transport between locations.
Depending on your chosen route, teams may explore areas around:
The city’s mix of historic streets, viewpoints and open public spaces creates plenty of opportunities for collaborative challenges and natural conversation along the way.
For visiting teams, it’s also a chance to experience more of the city beyond the conference room. For local teams, activities help people see familiar streets in a completely different way.
Edinburgh is one of the UK’s leading conference and business tourism destinations, making it an ideal location for corporate team building events.
Wildgoose activities work well alongside:
Activities can start directly from:
Because the setup is app-based, there’s very little disruption required. Large groups can be managed easily, and routes can be designed around your timings and preferred areas of the city.
For teams attending events near the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), many activities can begin within walking distance. Equally, groups staying around the Old Town or New Town can start directly from their hotel or venue.
Indoor and hybrid formats are also available for teams wanting weather-proof options or conference-friendly activities.
Edinburgh combines history, culture and walkability in a way few cities can. The atmosphere naturally encourages exploration, conversation and shared experiences, all important ingredients for a successful team event.
A city treasure hunt or outdoor team activity also gives people the opportunity to:
From dramatic castle views to hidden alleyways and lively social spots, Edinburgh offers teams something genuinely memorable without needing overly complicated logistics.
And once the activity finishes, the city makes it easy to continue the experience with restaurants, pubs, rooftop bars and evening entertainment all close by.

Not all the time. Mobile Adventures is a secure, native app, and the whole activity downloads to your Team Captain’s phone before you start (Wi-Fi is easiest for this). Everything is stored on the phone, so the activity keeps working when signal comes and goes. With a basic data connection you’ll get the most out of it: your photos and videos reach our host as you go, and you’ll get live messages and bonus tasks. If you lose signal, keep playing. Everything uploads once you’re back on data.
No, the beauty of all our activities is that they can are played from your own smartphone.
Almost anywhere, yes. Our GPS games are most often played in city centres, larger towns, or the grounds of a hotel or venue, and they work in any location where the route is safe with good paths and walkways.
We run outdoor team building activities across a wide range of locations, including several areas of London, but the same game runs just as well around your own office or in a nearby park. Just tell us where when you book. One thing worth knowing: Urban Explorer needs a town or city centre, because its photo and video challenges rely on landmarks and shops being close by. For a smaller town, hotel grounds or a venue like a theme park, we would point you at one of our other GPS games instead.
We always recommend choosing one of our hosting options to create a high-energy experience for your team. However, we also offer a selection of self-managed team activities too.
You play outdoors on your own smartphones, guided by GPS. Teams set off from a start point you choose, and as each team reaches a GPS hotspot the app unlocks the next clue, puzzle or challenge.
One of our hosts briefs everyone at the start, stays on hand throughout to support teams and keep the energy up, then wraps up with the results at the end. Remote hosting comes as standard, and an onsite host can join your group in person instead for an additional fee. There is no equipment for us to deliver and nothing to install on site, which is why an outdoor escape game can be booked with as little as 24 hours’ notice.
Tell us what you have in mind and our team will help you plan the perfect event.
