Team Building Activities in Vancouver

By Ginny Bowers.

Vancouver is one of the only cities in the world where you can ski in the morning and walk a seawall past the ocean the same afternoon, and Stanley Park’s ten-kilometre waterfront path is one of the largest urban parks in North America. Wildgoose brings that same sense of place to team building in Vancouver, from GPS treasure hunts through its waterfront neighbourhoods to activities built for groups who’d rather stay inside.

Outdoors, teams take on a GPS challenge activity across areas like Coal Harbour, Gastown or Granville Island, visiting a series of locations in whatever order they choose and unlocking trivia and photo challenges on the Wildgoose app as they go. Indoors, Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio run through the same app on your team’s own phones, nothing else needed, so a hotel meeting room or your own office turns into the activity just as easily as the seawall outside.

  • Popular formats: GPS challenge activities (outdoor), Level Up, Trading Table & Movie Studio (indoor), virtual and hybrid
  • Popular outdoor locations: Coal Harbour, Gastown, Granville Island, Yaletown and Stanley Park
  • Group sizes: 8 to 1,000+ people
  • Duration: 60 minutes to 2 hours
  • Best outdoor months: April to September (indoor activities run year-round, whatever the weather)

How a Team Building Activity in Vancouver Works

Outdoor, GPS challenge activities

Briefings happen together at the start, wherever suits you: your hotel, your office, or a spot we suggest. From there, teams split into groups of 4 to 6, download the Wildgoose app, and set off to find around 15 GPS locations scattered across the area, tackling them in whatever order they choose. That’s a deliberate part of the design: a group of 200 spreads out naturally across the city rather than everyone following each other, and choosing the smartest order to visit those locations becomes part of the challenge. Popular starting points like Canada Place, Gastown and Granville Island work well because they sit close to hotels and conference venues, but the locations themselves can be spread almost anywhere in the city.

If the forecast changes, our weatherproof guarantee means we can switch the whole group to Level Up indoors with as little as 24 hours’ notice, at no extra cost, whatever the weather does. Given how much rain Vancouver sees through the autumn and winter, this is one of the most-used parts of the guarantee anywhere we operate.

Indoor activities

Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio don’t need any of that. Everything runs through the same Wildgoose app, just switched from GPS challenges to activities built into the app itself, so there’s no kit to bring in and nothing to set up beyond your team’s own phones. Teams stay in one place, whether that’s a hotel meeting space, an office floor or a conference venue, and work through a sequence of live challenges together. It’s the same shared leaderboard and the same competitive pace as outdoors, just without the walking, which makes it a reliable choice through Vancouver’s wetter months.

Movie Studio has an extra connection here: Vancouver is one of North America’s busiest film and television production centres, and teams often enjoy the activity’s behind-the-camera format even more once they notice how many familiar street corners and buildings around them have doubled for somewhere else on screen.

Multi-City & Hybrid

Multi-city activities link two or more in-person groups together, so a team in Vancouver and colleagues based in Toronto, Montreal or other regions can all take part in the same activity at the same time. Everyone joins one shared briefing over Zoom or Teams, then plays through their own city-based route or session, all feeding into a single combined leaderboard.

Hybrid activities work differently: they’re built around one in-person group, usually here in Vancouver, with individual colleagues joining remotely from home or while travelling. Remote participants join the briefing on a laptop, then use the Wildgoose app on their own phone alongside the group in the room, so everyone competes on the Wildgoose Platform’s shared leaderboard regardless of where they’re joining from.

The GPS locations can go almost anywhere, but these are the areas that come up most often:

  • Coal Harbour: waterfront promenade and marina views right by the convention centre, an easy starting point for conference groups.
  • Gastown: cobblestone streets and heritage architecture in Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood, full of character for photo and video challenges.
  • Granville Island: public market, artisan studios and a genuinely different feel once teams cross over by the miniature ferries.
  • Yaletown: converted warehouses, waterfront walkways and a livelier evening feel, good for after-conference sessions.
  • Stanley Park: forest, seawall and mountain views within minutes of downtown, at their best once the weather warms up.

Indoor Venues We Work With

  • Conference hotels: Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio all run comfortably in a standard meeting room or ballroom, including hotels connected to the convention centre precinct.
  • The Vancouver Convention Centre and similar venues: well suited to a breakout session or evening activity alongside a scheduled conference program.
  • Your own office: plenty of Vancouver head offices run an indoor session directly onsite, with no external venue needed at all.

Works With Your Venue

Wildgoose activities in Vancouver sit alongside conferences, client days, graduate programs and company offsites. We run outdoors from hotels, office buildings and public spaces, and indoors from meeting rooms, venues like the Vancouver Convention Centre, or your own office.

You choose the activity and the venue; we handle the rest. There’s no kit to deliver and nothing left behind onsite, and groups scale easily, so a hybrid team spread across several offices can all take part in the same activity at once.

Why Vancouver Works So Well for Team Building

Vancouver’s setting makes an outdoor GPS challenge interesting almost by itself: mountains, ocean and forest all sit within a short walk of downtown, so the locations naturally cover more visual variety than most cities can offer in the same distance. As one of Canada’s key gateway cities for trade and travel with Asia-Pacific, Vancouver also draws a genuinely international mix of conference visitors, and a shared outdoor challenge tends to work well for a group meeting for the first time.

The indoor experience works just as well. Vancouver’s dense cluster of downtown hotels and its convention centre mean Level Up, Trading Table or Movie Studio can run entirely indoors without needing to worry about the weather, which matters given how much of the year brings rain. For anyone planning a conference here, knowing the activity will go ahead whatever the forecast is often the deciding factor.

Vancouver Team Building FAQs

Do you offer indoor team building in Vancouver?

Yes. Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio all run indoors through the Wildgoose app on your team’s own phones, no GPS, no outdoor route and no extra equipment needed. They work in a hotel meeting room, a conference venue or your own office, any time of year, which matters given how often Vancouver sees rain.

Do all the teams follow the same route?

No. Everyone starts together at the same briefing, but each GPS challenge activity has around 15 locations to visit, and teams choose their own order to tackle them. That’s what makes it work for large groups too: a group of 200 spreads out naturally across the city rather than queuing behind each other, and picking the smartest order between locations becomes part of the challenge.

Is Vancouver too rainy for outdoor team building?

It’s a fair concern, since Vancouver sees significant rain from October through March. Plenty of groups still run outdoors through this period with the right clothing, but we’d usually point you toward an indoor activity for anything booked over autumn or winter. And if an outdoor route is already booked and the forecast turns, our weatherproof guarantee lets us switch the group to Level Up indoors with as little as 24 hours’ notice, at no extra cost, whatever the weather does.

Can teams from other Canadian offices join a Vancouver activity remotely?

Yes. Multi-city and hybrid activities let colleagues in other provinces, or other countries, take part in the same activity and compete on the same leaderboard as the group in Vancouver.

Do you run team building activities in French?

Wildgoose delivers most of its activities in Vancouver in English, but can also deliver in French, which is particularly useful for multi-city groups that include offices in Montreal, Quebec City or elsewhere in Quebec. Mention your team’s language needs when you enquire and we’ll confirm the details for your Vancouver activity.

How many people can take part?

Anywhere from a small team of 8 to a large conference group, split into teams of 4 to 6 for the activity itself, indoors or outdoors.

How much does team building in Vancouver cost?

Wildgoose activities start from $22 CAD per person, with pricing depending on the activity, group size and duration. Adding a Remote Host is $500 CAD, and an Onsite Host is $1,400 CAD (subject to minimum spend). You can check live pricing and availability directly on the Wildgoose website.
