Team Building Activities in Calgary

By Ginny Bowers.

Calgary’s +15 Skywalk links more than 200 buildings across downtown with over 18 kilometres of elevated, enclosed walkways, one of the largest indoor pedestrian networks anywhere in the world. Wildgoose brings that same all-weather character to team building across Calgary, from GPS treasure hunts through its downtown and riverside districts to activities built for groups who’d rather stay inside.

Outdoors, teams take on a GPS challenge activity across areas like East Village or Kensington, visiting a series of locations in whatever order they choose and unlocking trivia and photo challenges on the Wildgoose app as they go. Indoors, Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio run through the same app on your team’s own phones, nothing else needed, so a hotel meeting room, an office floor or a space connected to the +15 turns into the activity just as easily as the street outside.

  • Popular formats: GPS challenge activities (outdoor), Level Up, Trading Table & Movie Studio (indoor), virtual and hybrid
  • Popular outdoor locations: Downtown & Stephen Avenue, East Village, Kensington, Eau Claire & Prince’s Island Park
  • Group sizes: 8 to 1,000+ people
  • Duration: 60 minutes to 2 hours
  • Best outdoor months: May to September (indoor activities run year-round, whatever the weather)

How a Team Building Activity in Calgary Works

Outdoor, GPS challenge activities

Briefings happen together at the start, wherever suits you: your hotel, your office, or a spot we suggest. From there, teams split into groups of 4 to 6, download the Wildgoose app, and set off to find around 15 GPS locations scattered across the area, tackling them in whatever order they choose. That’s a deliberate part of the design: a group of 200 spreads out naturally across the city rather than everyone following each other, and choosing the smartest order to visit those locations becomes part of the challenge. Popular starting points like Stephen Avenue, East Village and Eau Claire work well because they sit close to hotels and conference venues, but the locations themselves can be spread almost anywhere in the city.

If the forecast changes, our weatherproof guarantee means we can switch the whole group to Level Up indoors with as little as 24 hours’ notice, at no extra cost, whatever the weather does. Calgary’s Chinook winds can shift the temperature by 15 degrees or more in a single afternoon, so this flexibility gets used here more than in most cities we work in.

Indoor activities

Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio don’t need any of that. Everything runs through the same Wildgoose app, just switched from GPS challenges to activities built into the app itself, so there’s no kit to bring in and nothing to set up beyond your team’s own phones. Teams stay in one place, whether that’s a hotel meeting space, an office floor or a conference venue, and work through a sequence of live challenges together. It’s the same shared leaderboard and the same competitive pace as outdoors, just without the walking, which makes it a reliable choice through Calgary’s colder months.

Multi-City & Hybrid

Multi-city activities link two or more in-person groups together, so a team in Calgary and colleagues based in Toronto, Vancouver or other regions can all take part in the same activity at the same time. Everyone joins one shared briefing over Zoom or Teams, then plays through their own city-based route or session, all feeding into a single combined leaderboard.

Hybrid activities work differently: they’re built around one in-person group, usually here in Calgary, with individual colleagues joining remotely from home or while travelling. Remote participants join the briefing on a laptop, then use the Wildgoose app on their own phone alongside the group in the room, so everyone competes on the Wildgoose Platform’s shared leaderboard regardless of where they’re joining from.

The GPS locations can go almost anywhere, but these are the areas that come up most often:

  • Downtown & Stephen Avenue: Calgary’s historic pedestrian shopping street, lined with sandstone buildings from the city’s early years.
  • East Village: a rapidly redeveloped riverside district with public art, the Riverwalk pathway and a distinctly modern feel.
  • Kensington: independent shops, cafés and a village-like atmosphere just across the river from downtown.
  • Eau Claire & Prince’s Island Park: green space and river views right on the edge of the business core, at their best once the weather warms up.
  • Inglewood: Calgary’s oldest neighbourhood, with heritage buildings and an independent restaurant and gallery scene.

Indoor Venues We Work With

  • Conference hotels: Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio all run comfortably in a standard meeting room or ballroom, including hotels connected directly to the +15 network.
  • The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre and similar venues: well suited to a breakout session or evening activity alongside a scheduled conference program.
  • Your own office: plenty of Calgary head offices run an indoor session directly onsite, with no external venue needed at all.

Works With Your Venue

Wildgoose activities in Calgary sit alongside conferences, client days, graduate programs and company offsites. We run outdoors from hotels, office buildings and public spaces, and indoors from meeting rooms, venues like the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, or your own office.

You choose the activity and the venue; we handle the rest. There’s no kit to deliver and nothing left behind onsite, and groups scale easily, so a hybrid team spread across several offices can all take part in the same activity at once.

Why Calgary Works So Well for Team Building

Calgary’s concentration of energy-sector head offices means a lot of teams here are already used to large-scale conferences and off-site programs, and a shared outdoor challenge gives visiting colleagues a genuine feel for the city rather than another hotel ballroom. The mountains sit close enough that many groups build a Calgary activity around a wider trip toward Banff or the Rockies, and the city’s Stampede heritage gives an outdoor challenge a natural competitive energy that fits the local culture.

The indoor experience works just as well. Calgary’s +15 network and its cluster of downtown conference hotels mean Level Up, Trading Table or Movie Studio can run entirely indoors without needing to worry about the weather, which matters given how quickly conditions can change here. For anyone planning a conference, knowing the activity will go ahead whatever the forecast is often the deciding factor.

Calgary Team Building FAQs

Do you offer indoor team building in Calgary?

Yes. Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio all run indoors through the Wildgoose app on your team’s own phones, no GPS, no outdoor route and no extra equipment needed. They work in a hotel meeting room, a conference venue, your own office or a space connected to the +15 network, any time of year.

Do all the teams follow the same route?

No. Everyone starts together at the same briefing, but each GPS challenge activity has around 15 locations to visit, and teams choose their own order to tackle them. That’s what makes it work for large groups too: a group of 200 spreads out naturally across the city rather than queuing behind each other, and picking the smartest order between locations becomes part of the challenge.

Is Calgary’s weather too unpredictable for outdoor team building?

It’s a fair question. Calgary’s Chinook winds can push temperatures up or down dramatically within hours, especially in winter. Between November and April we’d usually point you toward an indoor activity or a route built through the +15 network. And if an outdoor route is already booked and the forecast turns, our weatherproof guarantee lets us switch the group to Level Up indoors with as little as 24 hours’ notice, at no extra cost, whatever the weather does.

Can teams from other Canadian offices join a Calgary activity remotely?

Yes. Multi-city and hybrid activities let colleagues in other provinces, or other countries, take part in the same activity and compete on the same leaderboard as the group in Calgary.

Do you run team building activities in French?

Wildgoose delivers most of its activities in Calgary in English, but can also deliver in French, which is particularly useful for multi-city groups that include offices in Montreal, Quebec City or elsewhere in Quebec. Mention your team’s language needs when you enquire and we’ll confirm the details for your Calgary activity.

How many people can take part?

Anywhere from a small team of 8 to a large conference group, split into teams of 4 to 6 for the activity itself, indoors or outdoors.

How much does team building in Calgary cost?

Wildgoose activities start from $22 CAD per person, with pricing depending on the activity, group size and duration. Adding a Remote Host is $500 CAD, and an Onsite Host is $1,400 CAD (subject to minimum spend). You can check live pricing and availability directly on the Wildgoose website.
