Team Building Activities in Montreal

By Michael Pinet.

Beneath Montreal’s streets runs one of the largest underground networks in the world, over 30 kilometres of tunnels linking the metro, offices and shopping across downtown, so the city never really stops for winter. Wildgoose puts that same all-weather character to work in team building across Montreal, from GPS treasure hunts through its historic streets to activities built for groups who’d rather stay inside.

Outdoors, teams take on a GPS challenge activity across areas like Old Montreal or the Plateau, visiting a series of locations in whatever order they choose and unlocking trivia and photo challenges on the Wildgoose app as they go. Indoors, Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio run through the same app on your team’s own phones, nothing else needed, so a hotel meeting room, an office floor or even a space connected to the underground city turns into the activity just as easily as the cobblestones outside.

  • Popular formats: GPS challenge activities (outdoor), Level Up, Trading Table & Movie Studio (indoor), virtual and hybrid
  • Popular outdoor locations: Old Montreal, Quartier des Spectacles, Plateau-Mont-Royal, Mount Royal and citywide
  • Group sizes: 8 to 1,000+ people
  • Duration: 60 minutes to 2 hours
  • Best outdoor months: April to October (indoor activities run year-round, whatever the weather)

How a Team Building Activity in Montreal Works

Outdoor, GPS challenge activities

Briefings happen together at the start, wherever suits you: your hotel, your office, or a spot we suggest. From there, teams split into groups of 4 to 6, download the Wildgoose app, and set off to find around 15 GPS locations scattered across the area, tackling them in whatever order they choose. That’s a deliberate part of the design: a group of 200 spreads out naturally across the city rather than everyone following each other, and choosing the smartest order to visit those locations becomes part of the challenge. Popular starting points like Place Jacques-Cartier, the Quartier des Spectacles and Mount Royal work well because they sit close to hotels and conference venues, but the locations themselves can be spread almost anywhere in the city.

If the forecast changes, our weatherproof guarantee means we can switch the whole group to Level Up indoors with as little as 24 hours’ notice, at no extra cost, whatever the weather does. Given how cold Montreal winters get, this is one of the more useful parts of the guarantee for groups booking outside the summer months.

Indoor activities

Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio don’t need any of that. Everything runs through the same Wildgoose app, just switched from GPS challenges to activities built into the app itself, so there’s no kit to bring in and nothing to set up beyond your team’s own phones. Teams stay in one place, whether that’s a hotel meeting space, an office floor or a conference venue, and work through a sequence of live challenges together. It’s the same shared leaderboard and the same competitive pace as outdoors, just without the walking, which makes it a reliable choice through Montreal’s colder months.

Movie Studio has an extra connection here: Montreal is home to a major games and visual-effects industry, including studios that have worked on some of the world’s best-known film and game franchises, so the activity’s behind-the-camera format tends to land especially well with creative and tech teams based in the city.

Multi-City & Hybrid

Multi-city activities link two or more in-person groups together, so a team in Montreal and colleagues based in Toronto, Vancouver or other regions can all take part in the same activity at the same time. Everyone joins one shared briefing over Zoom or Teams, then plays through their own city-based route or session, all feeding into a single combined leaderboard.

Hybrid activities work differently: they’re built around one in-person group, usually here in Montreal, with individual colleagues joining remotely from home or while travelling. Remote participants join the briefing on a laptop, then use the Wildgoose app on their own phone alongside the group in the room, so everyone competes on the Wildgoose Platform’s shared leaderboard regardless of where they’re joining from.

The GPS locations can go almost anywhere, but these are the areas that come up most often:

  • Old Montreal: cobblestone streets, 17th- and 18th-century architecture and the Old Port waterfront, one of the most atmospheric starting points in the country.
  • Quartier des Spectacles: the heart of Montreal’s festival and entertainment district, lively year-round and full of public art.
  • Plateau-Mont-Royal: colourful row houses and outdoor staircases give this part of the activity a distinct residential character.
  • Mount Royal: parkland and lookout views over the whole city, at their best once the weather warms up.
  • Downtown & McGill: a compact business core with direct access into the underground city network.

Indoor Venues We Work With

  • Conference hotels: Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio all run comfortably in a standard meeting room or ballroom, including hotels connected directly to the underground city.
  • The Palais des congrès de Montréal and similar venues: well suited to a breakout session or evening activity alongside a scheduled conference program.
  • Your own office: plenty of Montreal head offices run an indoor session directly onsite, with no external venue needed at all.

Works With Your Venue

Wildgoose activities in Montreal sit alongside conferences, client days, graduate programs and company offsites. We run outdoors from hotels, office buildings and public spaces, and indoors from meeting rooms, venues like the Palais des congrès, or your own office.

You choose the activity and the venue; we handle the rest. There’s no kit to deliver and nothing left behind onsite, and groups scale easily, so a hybrid team spread across several offices can all take part in the same activity at once.

Why Montreal Works So Well for Team Building

Montreal’s bilingual, multicultural population gives a shared city challenge real bite: teams navigating between French and English street signs, historic quarters and a genuinely international student population tend to find plenty to talk about afterwards. The city’s strength in gaming, visual effects and AI research also means a lot of Montreal’s workforce is already comfortable with screen-based, competitive formats, which suits Wildgoose’s app-driven activities particularly well.

The indoor experience works just as well. Montreal’s underground city and its cluster of downtown conference hotels mean Level Up, Trading Table or Movie Studio can run entirely indoors without needing to worry about the weather, which matters given how long and cold Montreal winters can be. For anyone planning a conference here, knowing the activity will go ahead whatever the forecast is often the deciding factor.

Montreal Team Building FAQs

Do you offer indoor team building in Montreal?

Yes. Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio all run indoors through the Wildgoose app on your team’s own phones, no GPS, no outdoor route and no extra equipment needed. They work in a hotel meeting room, a conference venue, your own office or a space connected to the underground city, any time of year.

Do all the teams follow the same route?

No. Everyone starts together at the same briefing, but each GPS challenge activity has around 15 locations to visit, and teams choose their own order to tackle them. That’s what makes it work for large groups too: a group of 200 spreads out naturally across the city rather than queuing behind each other, and picking the smartest order between locations becomes part of the challenge.

Is Montreal too cold for outdoor team building in winter?

Between November and March, we’d usually point you toward an indoor activity, or a route that makes use of the underground city instead of the open street. And if an outdoor route is already booked and the forecast turns, our weatherproof guarantee lets us switch the group to Level Up indoors with as little as 24 hours’ notice, at no extra cost, whatever the weather does.

Can teams from other Canadian offices join a Montreal activity remotely?

Yes. Multi-city and hybrid activities let colleagues in other provinces, or other countries, take part in the same activity and compete on the same leaderboard as the group in Montreal.

Do you run team building activities in French?

Wildgoose delivers most of its activities in Montreal in French, but can also deliver in English, which is particularly useful for mixed-nationality teams or multi-city groups linking to offices elsewhere in Canada. Mention your team’s language needs when you enquire and we’ll confirm the details for your Montreal activity.

How many people can take part?

Anywhere from a small team of 8 to a large conference group, split into teams of 4 to 6 for the activity itself, indoors or outdoors.

How much does team building in Montreal cost?

Wildgoose activities start from $22 CAD per person, with pricing depending on the activity, group size and duration. Adding a Remote Host is $500 CAD, and an Onsite Host is $1,400 CAD (subject to minimum spend). You can check live pricing and availability directly on the Wildgoose website.
