Team Building Activities in Toronto

By Ginny Bowers.

Toronto’s Distillery District is one of the largest collections of Victorian-era industrial architecture in North America, and entirely closed to cars, its cobblestone lanes built for walking, not driving. Wildgoose brings that same walkable character to team building across Toronto, from GPS treasure hunts through its neighbourhoods to activities built for groups who’d rather stay inside.

Outdoors, teams take on a GPS challenge activity across neighbourhoods like the Distillery District or Harbourfront, visiting a series of locations in whatever order they choose and unlocking trivia and photo challenges on the Wildgoose app as they go. Indoors, Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio run through the same app on your team’s own phones, nothing else needed, so a hotel meeting room or your own office turns into the activity just as easily as the street outside.

  • Popular formats: GPS challenge activities (outdoor), Level Up, Trading Table & Movie Studio (indoor), virtual and hybrid
  • Popular outdoor locations: Financial District, Distillery District, Harbourfront, Yorkville and citywide
  • Group sizes: 8 to 1,000+ people
  • Duration: 60 minutes to 2 hours
  • Best outdoor months: May to October (indoor activities run year-round, whatever the weather)

How a Team Building Activity in Toronto Works

Outdoor, GPS challenge activities

Briefings happen together at the start, wherever suits you: your hotel, your office, or a spot we suggest. From there, teams split into groups of 4 to 6, download the Wildgoose app, and set off to find around 15 GPS locations scattered across the area, tackling them in whatever order they choose. That’s a deliberate part of the design: a group of 200 spreads out naturally across the city rather than everyone following each other, and choosing the smartest order to visit those locations becomes part of the challenge. Popular starting points like Nathan Phillips Square, the Distillery District and Harbourfront work well because they sit close to hotels and conference venues, but the locations themselves can be spread almost anywhere in the city.

If the forecast changes, our weatherproof guarantee means we can switch the whole group to Level Up indoors with as little as 24 hours’ notice, at no extra cost, whatever the weather does. So there’s nothing to worry about when you’re booking an outdoor activity months ahead.

Indoor activities

Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio don’t need any of that. Everything runs through the same Wildgoose app, just switched from GPS challenges to activities built into the app itself, so there’s no kit to bring in and nothing to set up beyond your team’s own phones. Teams stay in one place, whether that’s a hotel meeting space, an office floor or a conference venue, and work through a sequence of live challenges together. It’s the same shared leaderboard and the same competitive pace as outdoors, just without the walking.

Multi-City & Hybrid

Multi-city activities link two or more in-person groups together, so a team in Toronto and colleagues based in Vancouver, Montreal or other regions can all take part in the same activity at the same time. Everyone joins one shared briefing over Zoom or Teams, then plays through their own city-based route or session, all feeding into a single combined leaderboard.

Hybrid activities work differently: they’re built around one in-person group, usually here in Toronto, with individual colleagues joining remotely from home or while travelling. Remote participants join the briefing on a laptop, then use the Wildgoose app on their own phone alongside the group in the room, so everyone competes on the Wildgoose Platform’s shared leaderboard regardless of where they’re joining from.

The GPS locations can go almost anywhere, but these are the areas that come up most often:

  • Financial District: the towers of Bay Street and the PATH network give teams an unmistakable business backdrop, close to hotels and conference venues.
  • Distillery District: cobblestone lanes and restored Victorian-era buildings, pedestrian-only and full of character, a favourite for photo and video challenges.
  • Harbourfront: Lake Ontario views and open promenades, at their best once the weather warms up.
  • Yorkville: upscale boutiques, galleries and leafy side streets give routes here a different, more design-led feel.
  • Old Town & St. Lawrence Market: Toronto’s original downtown core, with heritage architecture and one of the city’s oldest public markets.

Indoor Venues We Work With

  • Conference hotels: Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio all run comfortably in a standard meeting room or ballroom, including venues connected to the PATH for a fully indoor day.
  • The Metro Toronto Convention Centre and similar venues: well suited to a breakout session or evening activity alongside a scheduled conference program.
  • Your own office: plenty of Toronto head offices run an indoor session directly onsite, with no external venue needed at all.

Works With Your Venue

Wildgoose activities in Toronto sit alongside conferences, client days, graduate programs and company offsites. We run outdoors from hotels, office buildings and public spaces, and indoors from meeting rooms, venues like the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, or your own office.

You choose the activity and the venue; we handle the rest. There’s no kit to deliver and nothing left behind onsite, and groups scale easily, so a hybrid team spread across several offices can all take part in the same activity at once.

Why Toronto Works So Well for Team Building

More than half of Toronto’s population was born somewhere else, so a shared city-wide challenge beats an office icebreaker for most teams here: no single team already knows the area better than anyone else. The mix of glass towers, waterfront and older neighbourhoods gives an outdoor route real variety, and Toronto’s standing as Canada’s conference and financial capital means a treasure hunt sits comfortably alongside whatever trip already brought your team into town.

The indoor experience works just as well. Toronto’s density of hotels and office buildings, many connected by the PATH, its underground network of walkways, means Level Up, Trading Table or Movie Studio can run entirely indoors without needing to worry about the weather. For anyone planning a conference, knowing the activity will go ahead whatever the forecast is often the deciding factor.

Toronto Team Building FAQs

Do you offer indoor team building in Toronto?

Yes. Level Up, Trading Table and Movie Studio all run indoors through the Wildgoose app on your team’s own phones, no GPS, no outdoor route and no extra equipment needed. They work in a hotel meeting room, a conference venue or your own office, any time of year.

Do all the teams follow the same route?

No. Everyone starts together at the same briefing, but each GPS challenge activity has around 15 locations to visit, and teams choose their own order to tackle them. That’s what makes it work for large groups too: a group of 200 spreads out naturally across the city rather than queuing behind each other, and picking the smartest order between locations becomes part of the challenge.

Is Toronto too cold for outdoor team building in winter?

Not if you plan around it. Between November and April we’d usually point you toward the PATH for an indoor route through the Financial District, or one of the indoor activities outright. And if a route is already booked and the forecast turns, our weatherproof guarantee lets us switch the group to Level Up indoors with as little as 24 hours’ notice, at no extra cost, whatever the weather does. Plenty of organizations choose an indoor activity for winter anyway, not just as a backup plan.

Can teams from other Canadian offices join a Toronto activity remotely?

Yes. Multi-city and hybrid activities let colleagues in other provinces, or further afield, take part in the same activity and compete on the same leaderboard as the group in Toronto.

Do you run team building activities in French?

Wildgoose delivers most of its activities in Toronto in English, but can also deliver in French, which is particularly useful for multi-city groups that include offices in Montreal, Quebec City or elsewhere in Quebec. Mention your team’s language needs when you enquire and we’ll confirm the details for your Toronto activity.

How many people can take part?

Anywhere from a small team of 8 to a large conference group, split into teams of 4 to 6 for the activity itself, indoors or outdoors.

How much does team building in Toronto cost?

Wildgoose activities start from $22 CAD per person, with pricing depending on the activity, group size and duration. Adding a Remote Host is $500 CAD, and an Onsite Host is $1,400 CAD (subject to minimum spend). You can check live pricing and availability directly on the Wildgoose website.
