Yes, The Traitors can make a great team building activity, if it’s adapted for the workplace. Keep the suspicion, the secret missions and the big reveal. Drop the sabotage and eliminations, so nobody is left out or falls out. That’s the thinking behind The Insiders, our Traitors-inspired activity, now live in-person and virtually.
The Traitors is heading back to US screens, with a new season coming in 2027. And once again, offices across the country will be full of people accusing each other of being a Traitor around the water cooler.
So it’s no surprise we’re being asked the same question. Can The Traitors work as a team building activity?
Our answer is yes. If it’s done correctly.
Why teams love the idea
It’s easy to see the appeal. The Traitors is built on suspicion, secrets and a slow-burning reveal. People want to talk about it. They want to be part of it.
Those are great ingredients for a team experience. Everyone is engaged from start to finish. Everyone has a reason to talk to each other. And everyone wants to be in the room for the reveal.
Where it can go wrong
But the TV show is designed for television. Not for a team that has to sit next to each other on Monday morning.
On screen, the Traitors sabotage, lie and deceive. People get banished. People get “murdered.” Tension, confrontation and fallouts make great TV.
At work, they don’t make a great team.
We’ve heard plenty of mixed reviews from across the industry about Traitors-style team building. Colleagues who felt singled out. People knocked out early, then left sitting on the sidelines. Accusations that carried on long after the activity finished.
That’s not team building. That’s team destruction.
How we designed The Insiders
So when we designed our own version, The Insiders, we started with a simple rule. It had to be a positive experience for everyone.
That meant keeping the suspicion, the secrets and the big reveal. And leaving the sabotage behind.
Secret missions, not sabotage
In The Insiders, one team is secretly briefed as the Insiders. Everyone else is The Trusted.
The Insiders aren’t there to wreck anyone’s score. They’re there to complete secret missions without getting caught.
Throughout the activity, they’re sent hidden instructions through our Mobile Adventures app. Some are personal, like a small action they have to slip into a group session without anyone noticing. Others are bigger, like quietly steering a mixed group toward a particular choice in a photo or video challenge.
Every successful mission earns them bonus points. Get spotted, and suspicion grows.
It’s creative. It’s clever. And nobody’s efforts get undone along the way.
Nobody gets voted out
This was the big one for us. In the TV show, people get banished. In a team building activity, being voted out means being left out.
So in The Insiders, there are three votes. But none of them removes anyone.
Vote one is private. Only the Insiders see the results. It gives them an early read on whether The Trusted are onto them, so they can change their approach.
Vote two is public. Everyone sees how suspicion is spread across the teams. It’s there to get people talking, and it might just sway a few minds.
Vote three is the final vote. This is where the Insiders find out whether they’ve been caught. It all builds to one big reveal, hosted live, with everyone still in the room.
Everyone takes part from the first minute to the last.
Mixing people up
The Insiders runs over three rounds, and each one has a different rhythm.
Teams start together in their own groups, answering questions and taking on challenges. Then people are mixed up into new groups for creative photo and video challenges. Then everyone comes back together for a community session, led by the Host.
That mix matters. People work closely with their own team. They meet colleagues they don’t usually work with. And they share moments as a whole group.
It also makes the Insiders’ job harder. And much more interesting to watch.
Both sides want to win
The Insiders win if they top the leaderboard without being identified in the final vote. The Trusted win if they catch them, or stop them finishing first.
So every team is competing hard, every round. No one is just going through the motions.
What teams are saying
We’ve already delivered our first Insiders activities. Here’s what one organizer had to say on Trustpilot:
“I am totally obsessed with Wildgoose Events. We’ve run quite a few but recently did their new game “The Insiders” (think the Traitors but better ;-D ) It was FANTASTIC and our best one yet! Low barrier to entry, easy to run and SO FUN TO PLAY! We’re still talking about it now and laughing about the cheeky tasks they had to carry out! Roll on the next one!”

In-person and virtual, now live
The Insiders is now available in two formats.
In-person, delivered by an Onsite host at your venue or office. There’s no kit to ship and no props to set up. Everything runs through our Mobile Adventures app, and teams might just need to get resourceful with everyday items in the room.
Virtual, delivered by a Remote Host over video call, with teams using our Mobile Adventures app on their phones. Instant pricing, and you can book in minutes.
Both versions run for 90 minutes including the briefing and wrap-up.

So, is The Traitors a good team building activity?
It can be. The suspicion, the secrets and the reveal are great for bringing people together.
The sabotage, the banishments and the fallouts aren’t.
Keep the first. Lose the second. That’s The Insiders.
The Insiders is a Wildgoose activity inspired by, and not affiliated with, The Traitors.
